All my podcasts and streams from March

Apr 09, 2026

I'm sorry you haven't heard from me on new videos and podcasts lately. A bunch has happened, so here's a catch-up post. I've been heads down for the last month building course videos and an upcoming workshop for the Agentic DevOps Guild, which just passed 4 weekly meetups and 30 members sharing their AI experience with each other. It's been amazing.

Today on my Thursday Stream: Anyshift AI SRE

Chat with your infrastructure and give AI access to a read-only map of your servers and services.

On Stream: AI SREs, chat with your infrastructure: Anyshift

Podcasts and live streams from the last month

Four Months Felt Like Four Years

Released March 26th on the Agentic DevOps podcast audio and video

It’s been 6 months since the last episode, and it feels like everything has changed. Bret and Nirmal catch you up on the increasing pace of AI change, how it will likely affect DevOps engineers and platform builders, and what’s coming on the podcast.

Your Images are Out of Date (probably) - The Silent Rebuilds problem

Released March 4th on the DevOps and Docker Talk podcast audio and video

Container base images (like Official Docker Hub images) are often updated without new tag versions. I call this Silent Rebuilds. There's no way to know this happens without image digest-checking automation like Dependabot and Renovate with specific settings. Failure to keep up-to-date is a prime source of vulnerabilities that can lead to serious security breaches. Automate the updates!

Backup S3, Google Drive, iCloud, Notion with Plakar

Released March 20th on the DevOps and Docker Talk podcast audio and video

I'm joined by the founders of Plakar - Julien Mangeard and Gilles Chehade - to nerd out over backup engineering. The kind where you're building your own file formats and cryptographic layers, not just wiring up cron jobs. We get into how Plakar deduplicates and encrypts at the source so your cloud provider never sees your keys. Also, their snapshot model has no chain dependencies, which means you can delete any backup without breaking the others. We had a fun hour of backup horror stories, ransomware pragmatism, where I'm lobbying hard for a Docker volume integration.

Docker AI, what’s new with MCP, Agents, Sandboxes, and more

Released April 7th on the DevOps and Docker Talk podcast audio and video

Michael Irwin of Docker joins me to run through Gordon AI improvements, Docker Hardened Images and what's now free, Docker Sandboxes for running agents in proper isolation, Model Runner updates including MLX support on Mac, MCP Toolkit dynamic discovery, and the newly renamed Docker Agent with its GitHub Action for automating PR reviews and docs checks.

Streams

I'm still streaming most Thursdays at 1pm US Eastern (1700 UTC)

On Stream: AI in my CI
On Stream: Opencode with GitHub Copilot
On Stream: Prevent GitHub Actions Attacks
On Stream: Claude Code vs. OpenCode

Whew, OK, that's all for now!

The AI cost flip-flop
More "devil in the details" of AI engineering is starting to surface. Subscriptions are getting more expensive or offering less, model APIs have frequent outages, costs are skyrocketing once engineering teams fully adopt it, AI has limited effects on productivity due to it exposing downstream bottlenecks (PR reviews) that take humans to solve, and even "firing AI and hiring devs" was reported l...
Announcing the Agentic DevOps Guild
This month, I launched my Big New Thing: A membership program to accelerate DevOps/SRE/Platform Engineer adoption of AI agent techniques. I'm so excited about what we're creating that I'm having a hard time sleeping. I'm calling it the Agentic DevOps Guild, or just "the Guild" (no, not That Guild), and we've already had two weeks of meetups and course video updates, with more videos dropping...
Did 3 months just feel like 3 years?
No, this newsletter wasn't broken, I was just heads-down working on a bunch of stuff for you 🥳. Expect a big increase in newsletters as I catch you up with a new series of releases. (Notice the newsletter is coming from my new webhost, with email bretfisher@y.kajabimail.net) There's been a shift in the quality of the frontier AI models since November (starting with Claude Opus 4.5) that has all...
